{"id":118,"date":"2013-08-25T02:51:27","date_gmt":"2013-08-25T02:51:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ramseyjusticefoundation.com\/?page_id=118"},"modified":"2024-11-29T21:56:29","modified_gmt":"2024-11-29T21:56:29","slug":"eretz-israel","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/ramseyjusticefoundation.com\/?page_id=118","title":{"rendered":"Eretz Israel"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Within Eretz Israel, our Ramsey Social Justice Foundation is in partnership in several initiatives with our family and friends residing in Israel, focusing on electronic interactive EMS\/Healthcare active management work, the ecology, and education.<br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">Each year, Arizona State University&#8217;s Religious Studies Department sends our student to study abroad at the premier environmental research facility of our planet, the Arava Institute of Ben Gurion University, located within the Negev of Israel.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In partnership with JEWISH NATIONAL FUND\u2019S \u00a0National President Russell Robinson, former (departed) Arizona JNF Board Member Nelson Lerner, and working with Arizona State University&#8217;s Professor Joel Gereboff, ASU Foundation&#8217;s Jill DeMichele, as well as Ben Gurion University&#8217;s Arava Institute <span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">Executive Director Dr. Tareq Abu Hamed and Professor <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">David Lehrer, former Tree of Life recipients Jenny and Bob have established a scholarship for our Arizona State University students.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/arava.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">THE ARAVA INSTITUTE FOR ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES<\/a><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-807 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/ramseyjusticefoundation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/image12.jpeg\" alt=\"image1\" width=\"272\" height=\"204\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ramseyjusticefoundation.com\/..\/home\/pgcpy1fy6mf4\/public_html\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/image12.jpeg 320w, https:\/\/ramseyjusticefoundation.com\/..\/home\/pgcpy1fy6mf4\/public_html\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/image12-300x225.jpeg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 272px) 100vw, 272px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Bob Ramsey and Jenny Norton were grateful to be honored as they received JEWISH NATIONAL FUND\u2019S TREE OF LIFE lifetime achievement award for a lifetime of support for Eretz Israel. They have spent a loving lifetime together, working to serve the underrepresented.<br \/>\nThis section is being added to our social justice website just before the Winter Holidays of 2024, with an advisory to our readers that it has some rough words in quotes, during these times while antisemitism again rages<\/b>. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">From Jenny:<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cWhen I was four, Grandmother Silbert offered to take me with her shopping downtown.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>We boarded the bus, my little hand in hers, and we took a seat. A passenger across the aisle scowled at us and said, \u201cChrist-killer\u201d.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Grandma tightened her grip on my hand and moved us to the back of the bus, where she nestled me closer in protection.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\"><br \/>\n<\/span><br \/>\nWhen I was eight, I spent summer camp at our Jewish Community Center learning to swim and to sew, in those glorious summer days. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The following autumn, still at 8-years-old, the children of our little church\u2019s choir director, choir director!, his children called me the k-word. I won\u2019t say it nor write it.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Concurrently that autumn, two neighbor children who were my grammar school classmates told me that their parents would not let me play with them because \u201cyou killed Jesus\u201d, they said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">My beautifully integrated high school and college years were free of any antisemitism.
